CanSurvive’s Support Groups are held in person at our Maroochydore centre.
These sessions give people an opportunity to connect face-to-face in a calm and welcoming setting. There is no pressure to speak or share more than you feel comfortable with.
Some people come to talk through what they are experiencing. Others prefer to listen. Both are completely welcome.

Who Can Attend the Cancer Support Group?
The CanSurvive cancer support group in Maroochydore welcomes people affected by cancer.
This may include people who:
- have recently received a cancer diagnosis
- are currently undergoing treatment
- have completed treatment
- are adjusting to life after treatment
- are living with ongoing uncertainty
- are caring for a partner, family member or friend affected by cancer
You do not need to have the same experience as anyone else in the room. Cancer affects people differently, and every person brings their own perspective.
What to Expect at a Support Group
A support group can offer something that medical appointments cannot always provide: time to connect with people who may understand the emotional and practical side of living with cancer.
CanSurvive’s Support Groups offer a relaxed space for conversation and connection. People can share experiences, listen to others and spend time with a community that understands that cancer can affect more than physical health.
There is no expectation that you must have answers or know exactly what to say.
Sometimes simply being around people who understand can make the experience feel less isolating.
Support for Carers and Family Members
Cancer affects more than the person who receives the diagnosis. Partners, family members and carers can also experience uncertainty, emotional pressure and practical challenges.
That is why CanSurvive’s support community also recognises the important role of carers and supporters.
If you are supporting someone through cancer, you are welcome to attend and connect with others who may understand some of what you are experiencing.
Why Connection Matters
People often focus on appointments, tests, treatments and practical decisions after a cancer diagnosis. However, emotional support and community connection can also form an important part of the experience.
A cancer support group can provide a place to talk openly, hear different perspectives and feel less alone.
There is no single way to cope with cancer. Some people want to talk. Others need quiet support. Some want practical information, while others value the opportunity to connect socially.
CanSurvive aims to provide space for all of those needs.
